Glenray History

Glenray began in 1957 when Mrs Glen Fogarty & Mrs Beryl Dowling recognised the need for education for children with disabilities.

Glenray Special School opened in 1957, starting in a repurposed horse stable, behind the Uniting Church in William St.

The overwhelming demand prompted fundraising efforts that resulted in a new school building opening in 1961 on Browning st, accommodating 25 students.

Despite challenges such as a devastating fire in 2018, Glenray persevered, rebuilding its facilities and launching a state-of-the-art laundry equipped to cater to substantial industry demands.

Today, Glenray stands as a symbol of progress, recently opening 'Saltbush,' its latest Specialist Disability Accommodation group home, representing a commitment to fostering independence and inclusion. Through determination and a focus on safe, trusted support, Glenray remains dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities, looking ahead to a future where you can embrace your tomorrow.

In 1965 Glenray expanded its services to include a Sheltered Workshop to provide skill development and work opportunities.

Glenray continued to evolve and diversify its services, establishing employment opportunities like the Wash Shop turned Glenray Laundry, and accommodation for both adults and children with disabilities, with the opening of Glenray House and Glenray Park.
